Lexus ES: Basic Inspection

DESCRIPTION

When replacing the No. 1 HV supply stack sub-assembly or No. 2 HV supply stack sub-assembly, it is necessary to check, adjust and equalize the SOC of the HV battery. Otherwise, the engine may run longer than normal, resulting in a decrease in fuel efficiency.

PROCEDURE

1.

READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (Hybrid Battery SOC)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / HV Battery / Data List / Hybrid Battery SOC.

(e) Read the Data List.

Powertrain > HV Battery > Data List

2.

ADJUST HV BATTERY SOC

HINT:

If the following procedure (charging or discharging of the HV battery) cannot be performed due to the condition of the vehicle, proceed to the next step.

(a) Apply the parking brake and chock all 4 wheels.

(b) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(c) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(d) Turn the Techstream on.

(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / HV Battery / Data List / Hybrid Battery SOC.

(f) Depress the accelerator pedal and brake pedal simultaneously or leave the vehicle with neutral (N) selected until the value of Data List item "Hybrid Battery SOC" is between 55% and 65%.

Powertrain > HV Battery > Data List

Tester Display

Hybrid Battery SOC

HINT:

  • Depressing the accelerator pedal and brake pedal simultaneously will cause the HV battery to charge and the value of "Hybrid Battery SOC" to increase.
  • Leaving the vehicle with neutral (N) selected will cause the HV battery to discharge and the value of "Hybrid Battery SOC" to decrease.

(g) Turn the power switch off.

4.

ROAD TEST

(a) Turn the power switch on (READY).

(b) Drive the vehicle on urban roads for approximately 10 minutes.

HINT:

Perform this procedure in order to ensure the accuracy of the inspection in the next step.

(c) Turn the power switch off.

5.

READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (Delta SOC)

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the Techstream on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / HV Battery / Data List / Delta SOC.

(e) Check and Record the Data List.

6.

TIME TO EQUALIZE SOC

(a) According to the value of Data List item "Delta SOC" recorded in the previous step, equalize the SOC.

26 to 30%

103 hours

HINT:

  • SOC equalization is performed when the power switch is off.
  • It is not necessary to leave the power switch off continuously for the time shown in the table. The time shown is the cumulative time the power switch must be off after a HV supply stack sub-assembly has been replaced for SOC equalization to complete.
