Lexus ES: Initialization
INITIALIZATION
INITIALIZE PANORAMIC MOON ROOF SYSTEM (FOR SLIDING ROOF)
NOTICE:
-
When the sliding roof glass sub-assembly, sliding roof housing panel or slide roof rail sub-assembly is adjusted or removed/installed, or the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) is replaced, the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) must be initialized. If initialization is not performed, the auto operation function, jam protection function, key-off operation function, key-linked function, wireless transmitter-linked function and sliding roof open warning function may not operate, or the sliding roof may move in reverse or become misaligned.
-
During initialization, do not apply a physical shocks, such as opening/closing a door or driving the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more, to the vehicle and do not perform any electrical operations.
-
Make sure not to turn the engine switch on (ACC) or off during initialization.
-
If the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) is replaced, DTC B2343 will be stored. Clear the DTC after initialization.

HINT:
-
The sliding roof switch is built into the map light sub-assembly.
-
If the battery has been replaced, it is not necessary to initialize the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly).
-
If both the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) and roof sunshade ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) are not initialized, perform initialization of the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) to initialize the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) and roof sunshade ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) simultaneously.
(a) Perform initialization according to the table below.
Condition of Sliding Roof | Proceed to |
Auto slide open and close/tilt up and down functions do not operate. | Procedure A |
Auto operation function operates, but the sliding roof does not stop at the correct position (misalignment occurs). | Procedure B |
Auto operation function operates, but the sliding roof moves in the reverse direction during slide close operation, or the sliding roof moves in the reverse direction during tilt down operation. | Procedure C |
(1) Procedure A
-
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
-
Slide and hold the sliding roof switch forward until the sliding roof stops at the fully closed position.
-
Slide and hold the sliding roof switch forward until the following operation completes.
The sliding roof and roof sunshade move in the following order: pause approximately 10 seconds*1 → sliding roof opens approximately 150 mm (5.906 in.) → sliding roof starts closing → sliding roof stops at the fully closed position → sliding roof tilts up → sliding roof tilts down*2 → roof sunshade starts closing → roof sunshade stops at the fully closed position*3.
NOTICE:
-
If the switch is released before the sliding roof tilts down*2, turn the engine switch off and perform procedure A from the beginning.
-
If the switch is released before the roof sunshade is fully closed*3, operate the roof sunshade switch and fully close the roof sunshade to complete initialization.
HINT:
*1: If the sliding roof does not start opening after pausing for approximately 10 seconds, release and slide the sliding roof switch forward until this operation completes.
-
When the roof sunshade stops in the fully closed position, initialization is complete.
-
Confirm that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.
(2) Procedure B
-
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
-
Slide and hold the sliding roof switch forward for 0.3 seconds or more to start the sliding roof auto operation function.
-
Wait until the auto operation completes, then slide and hold the sliding roof switch forward until the following operation completes.
The sliding roof and roof sunshade move in the following order: pause approximately 10 seconds*1 → sliding roof opens approximately 150 mm (5.906 in.) → sliding roof starts closing → sliding roof stops at the fully closed position → sliding roof tilts up → sliding roof tilts down*2 → roof sunshade starts closing → roof sunshade stops at the fully closed position*3.

INITIALIZE PANORAMIC MOON ROOF SYSTEM (FOR ROOF SUNSHADE)
NOTICE:
-
When the roof sunshade ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) or sunshade trim sub-assembly is replaced or removed and installed, the roof sunshade ECU (sliding roof drive gear assembly) must be initialized (pulse sensor initial position setting), as the roof sunshade position cannot be determined. If initialization is not performed, the auto operation function, jam protection function, key-linked function, wireless transmitter-linked function and key-off operation function may not operate, or the roof sunshade may move in reverse or become misaligned.

During initialization, do not apply a physical shocks, such as opening/closing a door or driving the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more, to the vehicle and do not perform any electrical operations.
