Lexus ES: VSC does not Operate or VSC does not Operate Correctly

DESCRIPTION

When TRAC or VSC is operating, the skid control ECU (brake actuator assembly) blinks the slip indicator light to inform the driver that slippage occurred.

When a communication malfunction with the ECM is detected, TRAC and VSC are disabled. Also, TRAC and VSC are disabled when a DTC is stored.

When in VSC off mode, or TRAC and VSC are disabled, the multi-information display in the combination meter assembly displays "Traction Control Turned Off" and the VSC OFF indicator light illuminates to inform the driver.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

NOTICE:

After replacing or reinstalling the yaw rate and acceleration sensor (airbag ECU assembly), perform acceleration sensor zero point calibration and store system information memorization after performing "Reset Memory".

PROCEDURE

1.

BRAKE PROBLEM CHECK

(a) Check whether the slip indicator light was illuminated when VSC did not operate.

OK:

The slip indicator light was illuminated.

HINT:

When a DTC is stored, the slip indicator light is illuminated and VSC does not operate due to the fail-safe function.

(b) Check whether the vehicle speed was 15 km/h (9 mph) or less when VSC did not operate.

OK:

The vehicle speed was 15 km/h (9 mph) or less.

HINT:

VSC does not operate when the vehicle speed is 15 km/h (9 mph) or less.

(c) Check whether the vehicle was driven straight for a few seconds at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more.

OK:

The vehicle was not driven straight for a few seconds at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more.

HINT:

When the engine switch is turned on (IG), as steering angle sensor zero point calibration is not performed below 15 km/h (9 mph), VSC will not operate until the vehicle is driven straight for a few seconds at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more.

OK

2.

CHECK DTC

(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Enter the following menus: Chassis / Brake/EPB / Trouble Codes.

(d) Check the DTCs (electronically controlled brake system) that are output.
